STANFORD, Calif. – Bison thrower Payton Otterdahl continued his assault on the NDSU men's track & field record books Saturday, registering his fourth school record performance in only his second meet of the 2018 outdoor season.
Otterdahl, a junior from Rosemount, Minn., broke the NDSU shot put record with a monster throw of 65-06.25 (19.97m) to win his second Stanford Invitational title in as many days. He is now ranked No. 2 in the NCAA this year in the event.
Otterdahl has competed in two meets so far this outdoor season, breaking the NDSU school records in both the shot put and discus in both meets.
Bison senior Steffan Stroh placed third among collegians in the hammer at Stanford, throwing 208-9 (63.64m). Redshirt freshman Alex Talley moved up to seventh in NDSU history with his personal-best throw of 199-8 (60.86m).
Stroh also placed eighth in the shot put with a toss of 57-11.25 (17.66m).
Junior Jacob Richter clocked a personal-best time of 22.02 in the 200m dash for 14th place. Junior Byrne Curl ran 1:53.88 in the 800m for 34th place.
At the San Francisco State Distance Carnival in Hayward, Calif., redshirt freshman Connor Wendel finished fourth in the 400m hurdles in a personal-best 54.14. Freshman Dominic Martinez recorded a season-best time of 15.19 in the 110m hurdles to take sixth place.
