NDSU Men’s Track & Field Tops League with Five on Academic All-League Team

The North Dakota State men's track & field team led The Summit League by earning five of the 11 spots on the Academic All-League team announced Thursday for the 2018 outdoor season.
Bison seniors Steffan Stroh and Austin Schmidt, junior Ryan Enerson, sophomore Elliott Stone and redshirt freshman Alex Talley all earned the honor by virtue of their athletic and academic achievements.
Stroh and Enerson both received outdoor Academic All-League recognition for the third time in their careers.
Stroh (Underwood, Minn.) is a biotechnology major with a 3.63 cumulative grade point average. He ranked 16th in the NCAA in the hammer throw and 38th nationally in the shot put this season, winning his second straight Summit League hammer title.
Schmidt (Stanley, N.D.) owns a 3.86 cumulative GPA as a business administration major. He won the Summit League javelin title and ranked 26th in the NCAA, qualifying for the NCAA West Prelims for the fourth consecutive season. Schmidt led The Summit League by 31 feet in the javelin this season.
Enerson (Grand Forks, N.D.) is a biological sciences major with a 3.87 GPA. He claimed Summit League runner-up honors in both the decathlon and 110m hurdles this season, and ranked 44th in the NCAA in the decathlon with his score of 7.107 points.
Stone (Bismarck, N.D.) has a 4.0 cumulative GPA in mechanical engineering and was also named to the Google Drive Academic All-District Team this week. He was the Summit League runner-up in the 5,000m and placed fourth in the 10,000m at the conference meet.
Talley (West Fargo, N.D.) is a civil engineering major with a 3.69 GPA. At the Summit League Championships, he placed second in the shot put, second in the hammer throw, and fourth in the discus. Talley ranked 37th in the NCAA in the shot put and qualified for the NCAA West Prelims in both the shot and hammer.
To be eligible for The Summit League Academic All-League team, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.30 (on a 4.00 scale), completed at least one full academic year at the current institution and participated in 50 percent of their team's competitions.
