The North Dakota State Bison women's soccer team (3-4-0) opens Summit League play with a road trip to Western Illinois and Purdue Fort Wayne this weekend. NDSU plays at Western Illinois at 3 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 28, and at Purdue Fort Wayne at 10:30 a.m. CT on Sunday, Sept. 30.
The Series with Western Illinois
The Bison hold an 8-5-1 advantage in the all-time series with the Leathernecks after winning 2-0 in Macomb on Oct. 13 of last season. NDSU has won the last three meetings by a combined score of 6-0.
The Series with Purdue Fort Wayne
NDSU owns a 10-3-1 advantage in the all-time series with the Mastodons, winning the past five meetings. The Bison earned a 4-0 win over Purdue Fort Wayne on Oct. 22 last season in Fargo. The Mastodons haven't scored against NDSU since 2013, with NDSU posting a 12-0 aggregate in the last four years.
North Dakota State Notes
- Bison junior Mariah Haberle scored a pair of goals – including the game-winner in overtime – to lift the Bison to a 3-2 victory over Grand Canyon in Hawaii on Sept. 20. It was the third two-goal game of Haberle's career.
- Senior midfielder Roxy Roemer earned two assists in the win over Grand Canyon, increasing her team-leading assist total to four this season.
- Both NDSU and Hawaii registered 11 total shots in their match on Sept. 22, and the Bison held a 6-4 advantage in shots on goal, but Hawaii scored twice in the final 12 minutes to take a 2-0 victory.
- NDSU's average of 12.3 shots per game ranks fourth in The Summit League this season.
- Junior Mariah Haberle has a team-best eight points after her two-goal game on Sept. 20. She also leads the team in shots (23) and shots on goal (13).
- Sophomore midfielder Danielle Algera and junior goalkeeper Monica Polgar have played every minute of every regular season match this year.
- Bison sophomore Brookelyn Dew was named the Summit League Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 10 following NDSU's victory over Northern Iowa. She assisted on the first goal of the match to put NDSU up 1-0, then scored the game-winner in the 88th minute to lift the Bison to a key win over a Missouri Valley Conference opponent. Dew's goal was her first of the season and second of her career.
- Bison sophomore Laura Powell scored her first collegiate goal in the 39th minute vs. UNI on Sept. 9.
- NDSU had two of its first three matches this season canceled due to weather -- Aug. 16 at Wisconsin, and Aug. 26 vs. Weber State in Fargo.
About Western Illinois
- The Leathernecks enter the weekend with a record of 2-6-1 overall this season, going 0-3-1 at home. WIU has dropped its last two matches, falling 2-1 at Drake and 4-1 at Illinois State.
- Seven different Leathernecks have scored goals this season, led by junior forward Emily Bollman with four goals in nine matches. Sophomore forward Lauryn Peters leads WIU with 20 total shots this season.
- Junior Ines Palmiero Herrera has been the primary goalkeeper for WIU this season, allowing an average of 2.26 goals per game.
- WIU was picked to finish tied for eighth in the Summit League this season after going 2-15 last year.
About Purdue Fort Wayne
- The Mastodons hold a record of 3-4-3 entering the weekend, going 2-2-1 on their home turf. Purdue Fort Wayne hosts South Dakota State on Friday night before taking on the Bison Sunday.
- Freshman forward Kayla Wisniewski leads the Mastodons with five goals and 13 shots on goal this season. Junior midfielder Hannah Kroger has tallied four assists to lead Purdue Fort Wayne.
- The Mastodons have split time in goal between senior Haley Lydon (1.18 GAA) and sophomore Lorah Pund (1.94 GAA) this season, with Lydon playing 56 percent of the minutes.
- The Mastodons were picked to finish tied for eighth in the nine-team Summit League this year after posting a 1-17 record last season.
