Anderson Runs Fastest 5k in NDSU Cross Country History, Bison Women Win 8th Straight Title

GRAND FORKS, N.D. – North Dakota State junior Kelby Anderson clocked the fastest five-kilometer race in Bison women's cross country history at the UND Ron Pynn Classic on Saturday afternoon.
Anderson finished the 5k at Ray Richards Golf Course in 16:48.0, finishing second in the meet and beating Nancy Dietman's previous NDSU record of 16:49.8 set at the 1984 North Central Conference meet.
As a team, the Bison women captured their eighth straight UND Ron Pynn Classic team title, winning the meet every season since 2012. NDSU finished with 29 points in the team standings, beating North Dakota (51) and South Dakota State (97) among the eight-team field.
Senior Melina Kuerschner was the No. 2 runner for the Bison, coming in seventh overall in a personal-best time of 17:56.8. Bison junior Jen Dufner finished eighth in 17:59.3, freshman Kaleesa Houston was ninth in 18:01.7, and sophomore Mikayla Koenig completed the team scoring in 18:08.2 for 11th place.
NDSU also had junior Brynnan Covington finish 12th in 18:16.9 and senior Alaysia Freetly take 14th in 18:20.9.
Ida Narbuvoll from the University of Mary won the individual title in 16:40.8.
Saturday's meet served as the final tune-up for the Summit League Championships, which will be held on Nov. 2 in Fargo at Rose Creek Golf Course.
