Payton Otterdahl Named Semifinalist for The Bowerman

The Bowerman Semifinalists

North Dakota State senior thrower Payton Otterdahl has been named one of 10 semifinalists for The Bowerman – the highest honor in collegiate track & field.

The group of 10 was named Thursday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) after careful deliberation by The Bowerman Watch List Committee. Three of the 10 will be selected as finalists for The Bowerman, with the winner announced in December at the annual USTFCCCA Convention in Orlando, Fla.

Otterdahl is the first-ever semifinalist from NDSU, and also the first men's Bowerman semifinalist from the state of Minnesota.

Otterdahl swept the NCAA titles in the indoor throwing events, winning the shot put and weight throw championships in March. He added a runner-up finish in the discus at the NCAA Outdoor Championships and finished fourth in the outdoor shot put.

Otterdahl is the only NDSU track & field athlete to ever earn four All-America honors in the same year. He was named the USTFCCCA National Men's Indoor Field Athlete of the Year after setting the all-time collegiate record in the shot put and ranking fifth in collegiate history in the weight throw.
