All-America Honors
The top eight finishers in all events will earn first team All-American honors, places 9 through 16 will be named second team All-Americans, and all other national meet competitors will receive honorable mention status.
Top Placer
Matti Mortimore owns the highest NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships finish in NDSU men's history, placing fifth in the javelin in 2017.
Mainstays
Between the shot put and javelin, the Bison men have earned seven first- or second-team All-America honors at the NCAA Outdoor Championships since 2015.
Last Champ
While Payton Otterdahl claimed the indoor national titles in the shot put and weight throw earlier this year, the most recent outdoor track & field NCAA title won by a Bison was Nathan Schmidt's Division II decathlon crown in 2004.
Largest Group
Until this year's group of six entries and four qualifiers, the largest group of Bison men at the Division I NCAA Outdoor Championships came in 2018 (three entries with two qualifiers).
Nation's Best Throws Crew
The NDSU men's throws crew holds the No. 1 event squad ranking in the hammer throw as the only school in the nation with four men over 60 meters in the event this year. The Bison are also No. 2 in the event squad ranking in the shot put and are the only team in the country with four men over 60 feet in the shot. NDSU swept the four Summit League titles in the throwing events and posted 95 team points at the league meet.
Second-Best Freshman
Kristoffer Thomsen is ranked No. 2 in the NCAA among freshmen in the shot put this season. Only UCLA's Otito Ogbonnia has thrown further, edging Thomsen by four inches.
Shot Put – Hammer Combo
Alex Talley is one of only two men to qualify for the NCAA Championships this year in the shot put and hammer throw, with Georgia's Denzel Comenentia being the other.
On the World Stage
Otterdahl currently ranks 12th in the world in the outdoor shot put this year. He finished the indoor season ranked No. 2 in the world behind only reigning Olympic champion Ryan Crouser.
