NDSU Men’s Track & Field Wins 2nd Straight Bison Team Cup Championship

FARGO, N.D. – The North Dakota State University men's track & field team won its second straight Bison Team Cup title on Saturday, defeating Northern Iowa and Utah State inside the Shelly Ellig Indoor Track & Field Facility.
The Bison men scored with 172 points, UNI was second with 146.5, and Utah State took third with 82.5 points. NDSU won 7 of the 14 men's events.
Bison junior Alex Talley won the weight throw, launching a personal-best of 70-02.25 (21.39m) – an improvement of more than two feet over his previous best. He now ranks fifth in the NCAA this season – right behind teammate Trevor Otterdahl at No. 4 on the national list. Talley also placed second in the shot put Saturday, throwing 61-07.25 (18.78m).
The NDSU men swept the top three places in the weight throw, with Otterdahl second at 67-10.50 (20.69m), and senior Michael Keogan third with a personal-best 65-09.75 (20.06m).
The Bison men took the top five spots in the 400m dash, led by champion Cody Roder in 49.53. Josh Knutson (49.58) was the runner-up, Adrian Harris (49.58) finished third, Darrien Lipscomb (50.04) took fourth, and Connor Wendel (50.82) was fifth.
Bison sophomore Jacob Rodin won the 800m in 1:54.69. Roder, Rodin, Harris and Knutson teamed up to win the 4x400m relay in 3:21.08.
Sophomore Luke Foertsch won the triple jump, leaping 43-11.25 (13.39m). Foertsch was also the top finisher for the Bison men in the long jump, going 22-6 (6.86m) for fourth place. Junior Marcus Walton won the high jump, clearing 6-06.75 (2.00m).
NDSU junior Noah Shafer was the pole vault champion, clearing 15-01.00 (4.60m).
NDSU's Guillaume Viault claimed 60m dash runner-up honors in 6.92 seconds and 200m runner-up honors in 21.94. Freshman Trent Davis clocked a season-best 8.30 to take second in the 60m hurdles.
Junior Alex Bartholomay was the runner-up in the 3000m, finishing in 8:31.48. Tim Heikkila was the top finisher for NDSU in the mile, running 4:17.04 for third place.
NDSU returns to competition on Saturday, Jan. 25, at Nebraska's Mark Colligan Memorial.
