The North Dakota State University men's and women's track & field teams will travel to Minneapolis this weekend to compete at the Jack Johnson Classic hosted by the University of Minnesota on Friday, Jan. 31, and Saturday, Feb. 1.
Friday's action consists of the men's heptathlon (2:30 p.m. start), the women's pentathlon (2:50 p.m. start), and the women's pole vault (5 p.m.).
On Saturday, events begin inside the Fieldhouse with the men's weight throw at 10:30 a.m. and men's high jump at 11 a.m. The heptathlon resumes with the 60m hurdles at 10:30 a.m., followed by track events starting with the 5000m at 11:20.
The Bison have continued their national prominence in the throwing events this season. There are only three men in the country who rank in the NCAA's Top 50 in both indoor throwing events – and all three are Bison. Junior Alex Talley is 8th nationally in the shot put and 9th in the weight throw. Junior Trevor Otterdahl is 8th in the weight throw and 37th in the shot put, and senior Michael Keogan is 22nd in the weight and 41st in the shot.
NDSU is the only school in the nation with three women ranked in the NCAA Top 10 between the shot put and weight throw. The Bison have senior Maddy Nilles at No. 6 in the weight throw, senior Shelby Gunnells at No. 7 in the shot put, and sophomore Akealy Moton at No. 8 in the shot put.
The Bison women currently own seven of the top eight spots in the Summit League for the shot put this season.
NDSU is also off to a strong start with the 400m crew. The Bison have four of the top five women in the league in the 400m dash. The NDSU men have five of the league's top eight 400m performers this season.
