Bison Soccer to Host Kansas City In Summit League Battle

FARGO, N.D. - After a win in the Summit League opener against Oral Roberts on Friday, the Bison soccer team will jump right back into league action again on Sunday, as North Dakota State will welcome in Kansas City for the second of three-straight matches at Dacotah Field to begin league play. NDSU will host the Roos with kickoff set for 12 p.m. on October 3.
 
2021 Season Attendance Policy
With the return to a traditional fall season for the Bison and matches being played with the standard Dacotah Field layout, attendance to NDSU home soccer matches is once again open to the general public. Fans are strongly encouraged to wear masks to Bison soccer games and maintain social distancing where possible with the COVID-19 Pandemic still impacting our community.

Bison Open League Play By Getting Back to Winning Ways
North Dakota State snapped a seven-game winless streak on Friday as they opened up Summit League play with a thrilling 3-2 win over Oral Roberts. The Bison jumped out to an early 2-0 lead and led 3-1 at the break before holding on over the final 45 minutes to pick up their first win since defeating Oral Roberts in the finale last season.
 
Lovick Finds Shooting Boots In Win, Keeps 100% Scoring Record vs ORU
After going without a goal in seven-straight games, sophomore Olivia Lovick snapped her skid with a first half brace on Friday against Oral Roberts, scoring a pair of goals 103 seconds apart. It is her second career two-goal game, as she also scored two against Western Illinois last season. Lovick also has a 100 percent scoring record against ORU in three games. She has four goals, scoring once in both matches against the Golden Eagles last season.
 
Hanley Nets First Game Winner With Wonderstrike
Sophomore Jess Hanley scored her third career goal for the Bison and first game winner with a long-range strike against Oral Roberts on Friday. The midfielder took the ball off the foot of an Oral Roberts midfielder, turned and fired a shot from about 24 yards out that hit off the left post and in to the top corner to restore the two-goal lead with the eventual game winner.
 
Lovick Takes Over Active Lead In Goals, Points
For Olivia Lovick, her two-goal game saw the sophomore move into sole possession of first on the active scoring and points lists for the Bison. She moved to eight career goals, breaking a tie with Brookelyn Dew (6) atop the goal scoring list. Lovick is also now the active points leader with 18, surpassing Dew (17).
 
Algera Reaches Milestone, Climbing Games Played, Started Charts
Danielle Algera surpassed the 6,000 career minutes played milestone in the Summit League opening victory against Oral Roberts. Algera is the is the active leader in minutes played with 6007. The senior is also the active leader for the Bison in games played (76) and games started (69). The Winnipeg native is on pace to crack the top 10 (78) for the Bison in games played against North Dakota. She is also three starts from the top 10 (72). Algera could climb to second in both categories this season.
 
Bison Soccer Earns United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award
NDSU women's soccer team earned the United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award on September 23. For the sixth-straight year, including every year under head coach Mike Regan, the Bison have earned the Team Academic Award, doing so in the 2020-21 academic year with a cumulative team grade-point average (GPA) of 3.645.
 
The Bison have performed exceptionally in the classroom over the last two decades, with this year's honor being the 19th in the past 20 seasons. The 2020-21 school year was the 21st time the Bison have won the award since it was introduced in 1996, tied for 13th most among the 1121 collegiate women's soccer programs to win the award at least once in the award's history. The next closest Summit League school was Omaha with 16.
 
Schneider Playing Every Minute for Bison
Earlier this season against Pacific, Ellie Schneider surpassed 3,000 career minutes as a Bison, one of just three active players on the list to do so (Danielle Algera and Brookelyn Dew). The senior is the only player for the Bison to play all 755 minutes this season.
 
About Kansas City
Like the Bison, Kansas City also snapped a seven-game winless skid on Friday with a victory in its Summit League opener, defeating North Dakota 1-0. The Roos started the season with a loss at Wisconsin before back-to-back victories over Missouri State and Southern Illinois. However, the Roos lost seven straight and had not scored in four straight game before beginning league play with a victory over the Fighting Hawks.
 
Kassi Ginther is the leading scorer for the Roos, having found the back of the net four times this season, the only Kansas City player with multiple goals. However, Ginther's last goal came against Oklahoma on Sep. 3. Emma Wilson scored her second career goal and first of the season in the win over UND. Mackenzie Caldwell has started the last seven games in goal. She has a 2.24 goals against average and a 74.6 save percentage.
 
The Series with Kansas City
Sunday's game between the Bison and Roos will be the eighth all-time meeting, with the series dating back to October 25, 2009 as the Bison picked up the biggest win in series history, defeating the Roos 5-1 at the Ellig Sports Complex. NDSU is 4-1-2 all-time against Kansas City.
 
The Bison are 3-1-0 against the Roos in Fargo. After a nine-year gap in the series, the team's met last season for the first time at Dacotah Field in the bubble, with the Roos picking up their only win in the series with a 3-2 victory in the season opener for the Bison. NDSU then defeated the Roos 2-0 in the second meeting two days later.
 
Last Time Against Kansas City
NDSU scored a goal in each half on Sunday (Feb. 14), while the defense pitched a shutout in a 2-0 win over Kansas City in the Dacotah Field Bubble.
 
Brookelyn Dew scored first for the Bison for the second time this year, with her sixth career goal coming in the 28th minute. Kelsey Kallio and Danielle Algera had the assist on the play, the first for Kallio and the fifth of Algera's career.
 
In the 83rd minute, Olivia Lovick scored for the second time on the weekend, taking a pass from Jess Hanley, who recorded her first career assist.
 
Kallio led the Bison with three shots on goal, while Alicia Nead, Dew, Marian Taiwo and Lovick each had one. Aly Cole made her collegiate debut in the net, as the junior recorded three saves. NDSU had a 13-11 advantage in shots.
 
On The Day
The Bison will play for the fifth time in program history on October 3. The first meeting came in 1997 at St. Cloud State. Kansas City is the fifth different opponent on the day, and the Bison hold a 1-3 record overall, including a mark of 1-2 in the Division I era. The Bison last played on the day in 2014, falling to Western Illinois in overtime 1-2 at Dacotah Field. NDSU won in the only other home game on the day, as the Bison defeated Southern Utah in 2-0 in 2008 at the Ellig Sports Complex.
 
On the Horizon
The Bison will wrap up their three-game homestand to begin Summit League play, as North Dakota State will welcome in-state rival University of North Dakota next Sunday to Dacotah Field. The Bison and Fighting Hawks are slated for a 1 p.m. kickoff for the 18th all-time meeting between the two sides.
