POWELLS POINT, N.C. – The North Dakota State men's golf opened up the ODU/OBX Intercollegiate Invitational on Sunday and sit in ninth overall in a 17-team field competing at the Kilmarlic Golf Club.
Nate Adams and
Ian Simonich led the way for the Bison on day one, as both shot a +1 round of 72 to sit in a tie for 30th overall in the 88-golfer field.
Simonich led the Bison with five birdies on the afternoon. The freshman had three birdies in the opening nine holes to make the turn at -3. He would add two more birdies on the back nine but also had trouble on two holes, finishing the back nine at +4.
Adams had two birdies in his round, with both coming on the back nine. He also finished with 13 pars in the first of three rounds over three days.
Brock Winter was third for the Bison and 42nd overall, one shot behind Adams and Simonich with a +2 round of 73. Winter was +1 through the opening nine holes with a bogey and eight pars. Winter had a birdie on the back nine with a pair of bogeys and six pars.
Gavin Cronkhite and
Jack Johnson rounded out the scoring for the Bison, as the two finished with +3 rounds of 74. Cronkhite and Johnson both had a pair of birdies in their rounds. Johnson also closed his round with an eagle. The duo sits in a tie for 50th.
The Bison will return to the course on Monday with round two. NDSU is set to tee off at 10 a.m.
