Bison Men Take 3rd, Kindel Top Freshman at Summit League Cross Country Championships

TULSA, Okla. – The North Dakota State men's cross country team took third place at the Summit League Cross Country Championships held Saturday morning in Tulsa, Okla.
The Bison men finished with 93 points in the team standings, trailing only champion South Dakota State (17) and St. Thomas (46). All of NDSU's top five finishers were underclassmen.
Freshman Mason Kindel (Bismarck Century HS) was the top finisher for the Bison men in the eight-kilometer race at Holland Hall. Kindel crossed the line in a personal-best 25:28.4 for 12th place, and he was named the Summit League Newcomer of the Championship as the top-finishing freshman.
Sophomore Jake Arason took 14th place overall to be the No. 2 finisher for NDSU, running 25:31.7. Both Kindel and Arason earned second-team All-Summit League honors for the finishes.
NDSU sophomore Payton Smith placed 21st in 25:54.9, and sophomore Isaac Huber was 23rd in 26:01.0. Freshman Tyson Mahar completed the team scoring for the Bison in 26th place, clocking 26:04.0.
The NDSU men were the Summit League runners-up in each of the past four seasons. The Bison will race next at the NCAA Midwest Regional in Iowa City, Iowa, on Nov. 12.
