Three Bison in Top 20 After Opening Day of Lady Thunderbird Invitational

SAINT GEORGE, Utah – Three North Dakota State women's golfers are in the top 20 after the opening two rounds of the Pizza Hut Lady Thunderbird Invitational Thursday. Hosted by Southern Utah, the event is being played at the Sunbrook Golf Course.
NDSU sits in ninth place as a team after shooting a 615 after two rounds. The Bison shot a 308 in the first round and a 307 in the second round, two of the top three rounds of the year for the Bison. NDSU is just a stroke out of seventh place and eight strokes out of fifth. NDSU had 22 birdies between the two rounds. South Dakota State is currently leading after shooting a 578, led by Teresa Toscano, who shot a 12-under after two rounds. The Jackrabbits have a 22-stroke lead over Oral Roberts.
Juniors Lexi Geolat and Taylor McCorkle and freshman Catherine Monty all tied for 20th with a 153 over the two rounds. Geolat recorded four birdies in the second round, as she shot a 76. McCorkle recorded three birdies in the first round and shot a season-low 75. Monty recorded three birdies in the second round and shot a 74. Sophomore Maddie Herzog shot a 156 and is tied for 42nd, with rounds of 77 and 79. Senior Alexis Thomas shot a 163 and is tied for 68th. Thomas recorded five birdies in her first round, as she shot an 80.
Freshmen Ava Wallerich and Holly Murphy entered the tournament as individuals. Wallerich shot an 89 in the first round and a 90 in the second round while Murphy shot a 94 in the first round and an 87 in the second round. Wallerich is in 91st and Murphy is in 92nd.
The Bison will play their third, and final round, Friday morning at 10 a.m. (central).
