WICHITA, Kan. – North Dakota State sophomore
Benji Phillips registered a big personal-best in the javelin to headline the efforts of the Bison men's track & field team at Wichita State's Shocker Spring Invitational on Friday.

Phillips threw 238-1 (72.56m) in the javelin for his season opener, ranking him second in NDSU history and among the Top 10 in the NCAA this season. The Glasgow, Mont., native recorded three throws beyond 70 meters in the meet.

Riley Dolezal threw 264-6 (80.62m) to win the event. Former NDSU All-American Austin Schmidt recorded a lifetime-best throw of 232-9 (70.95m) for third place.

Trevor Otterdahl was the top Bison in the men's hammer throw, taking fourth place with a personal-best mark of 189-5 (57.73m).
Tristan Bush placed fifth with a throw of 187-4 (57.09m).

Alex Bartholomay ran 3:52.94 in the 1500m for fourth place, clocking the third-fastest time of his career.
Josh Samyn placed fifth in 3:54.49.
