PAWLEY'S ISLAND, S.C. – The North Dakota State men's golf team won the team title at the Golfweek Spring Invitational at the True Blue Golf Club Tuesday.
NDSU shot a 286 in the final round, bringing its three-round total to 842, the second-best 54-hole score in school history. The Bison finished six strokes ahead of runner-up Campbell. Old Dominion's Carter Morgan and Campbell's Pontus Nyholm split the individual title, both scoring a 203.
All Bison golfers placed in the top 20. Sophomore
Nate Deziel tied for fifth with a 210. Deziel, who shot a 69 in the final round, tied teammate
Jack Johnson for the most birdies in the tournament with 15. Johnson tied for 10
th with a 212. He shot a 74 in the final round.
Freshman
Nate Adams, junior
Lucas Johnson, and freshman
Brock Winter all scored an eagle in the final round. Adams, who finished tied for 16
th with a 215, secured his second eagle of the tournament. He finished his final round with a 72. Johnson finished with a 216 after shooting a 72 in the final round, while Winter finished with a 74 in the final round. Both Winter and Johnson finished tied for 20
th with a 216.
Deziel, J. Johnson and Adams each finished with the lowest 54-hole score of their careers. Deziel tied for the 11
th lowest score in school history, while J. Johnson's was tied for the 16
th lowest. NDSU led the field with five eagles and 58 birdies after three rounds of play.
The Bison return to action in Elkhorn, Neb. at the Stampede at the Creek April 12-13.
