Kes Leads Quartet of Bison Champions at South Dakota Tune-Up

VERMILLION, S.D. – The North Dakota State women's track & field team captured four event titles with a limited squad competing at the South Dakota Tune-Up on Friday.

Jenna Kes claimed the 400m hurdles title, running a personal-best and Summit League-leading 1:00.75. She is now eighth-fastest in NDSU history in the event.

Unattached Bison senior Amy Herrington posted a hammer throw personal-best of 216-9 (66.06m) that would rank her second in school history behind teammate Maddy Nilles.

NDSU's Erin Valgardson won the 1500m, running 4:35.26 to register her third consecutive personal-best in the event over the past three weeks. Friday's performance trimmed another four seconds off her previous best.

Alissa Melvin won the triple jump, leaping 37-10.00 (11.53m). Freshman Grace Emineth took second in the triple jump and fourth in the long jump, going 37-06.50 (11.44m) in the triple and 19-00.00 (5.79m) in the long.

Bison freshman Hayley Schmidt took first place in the javelin, throwing 140-8 (42.89m).

Senior Klara Lyon cleared 12-11.50 (3.95m) in the pole vault – her second straight meet over at least 12 feet, 11 inches.

Ansley Schug placed third in the 100m hurdles, clocking 14.13.

The Summit League Outdoor Track & Field Championships are scheduled for May 13-15 in Vermillion.
