Bison Volleyball Set for Windy City Classic

This Week
The North Dakota State volleyball team (1-2 overall, 0-0 Summit) travels to Chicago for the Windy City Classic this weekend. The Bison begin play against Charlotte on Friday at 10:00 a.m., before taking on Chicago State at 7:00 p.m. NDSU will wrap the weekend on Saturday against Niagara at 11:00 a.m.
Match Coverage
Both matches against Charlotte and Niagara will feature live statistics, while the match against Chicago State will have live statistics and be streamed on the WAC Digital Network.
Looking Back at Last Week
North Dakota State opened the season on the road at the Green Bay Invite in Green Bay, Wis., and posted a 1-2 record. The week was highlighted by a thrilling 3-2 win over Green Bay behind a career-high 21 kill performance from Syra Tanchin. Following the tournament, Tanchin and Ali Hinze were named to the Green Bay Invite All-
Tournament Team.
Servin' Up Aces
North Dakota State totaled 25 service aces in the first week of the season, which ranks 28th in the nation. Raegen Reilly leads the way for the Bison notching a team-best seven service aces.
Block Party
The Bison tallied 24.0 total blocks last week, including a season-high 10.0 in the season opener against Northern Iowa. It marked the most total blocks in a season opener since 2018 when the Bison totaled 12.0 against Seton Hall. Michelle Glover and Alexandria Hicks pace NDSU with a team-best 11.0 total blocks each.
Making an Impact Early
Raegen Reilly and Abby Stark made their Bison debuts last week and wasted no time making an impact. Reilly has distributed a team-best 93 assists, including a match-high 51 assists in the win over Green Bay.
On the defensive end of the floor, Stark has compiled a team-high 39 digs and is averaging 3.25 per set. She has reached double figures in digs twice and totaled a match-best 21 digs against Green Bay.
Hanger Moves Up
Kaylee Hanger posted 18 digs last week to reach the 800 career digs plateau. She has totaled 810 career digs over her four year career, which ranks 36th all-time in program history.
Tanchin Cracks 400
Syra Tanchin leads the Bison on the offensive side with 38 total kills and 3.17 per set. She notched a career-best 21 kills to go along with a .486 hitting percentage in the win over Green Bay. Tanchin also reached the 400 career kills mark and has contributed 430 over her first three seasons.
Heading Home
Michelle Glover, Kaylee Hanger and Allison Scheiwiller are all natives of Illinois. Glover is from Wheaton, Ill. outside of Chicago and spent the first three seasons of her career at Illinois-Chicago along with current teammate Alexandria Hicks prior to NDSU.
Life On The Road
North Dakota State will open the season playing its first 12 matches on the road, the most since the 2012 season. The Bison will travel over 4,400 miles during the four week stretch in four different states.
Summit League Preseason Poll
North Dakota State was picked fifth in the Summit League Preseason Coaches' Poll with Ali Hinze and Syra Tanchin also named as players to watch for the 2021 season, announced by the league office on Aug. 25.
North Dakota State was slotted in fifth place after totaling 49 points. South Dakota picked up 78 points and six first place votes to earn the top spot. Denver was positioned second with 76 points and four first place votes, while Omaha rounded out the top three with 62 points.
The Series vs. Charlotte
This will mark the first meeting between the two programs.
The Series vs. Chicago State
This will be only the second all-time meeting and first since 2004 when NDSU rolled past Chicago State, 3-1.
The Series vs. Niagara
In the only meeting between these two programs, NDSU blanked Niagara, 3-0, at the Blue & White Classic in Buffalo, N.Y., in 2018. Kaylee Hanger reached double digits in digs with 10.
