BROOKINGS, S.D. – Sophomore
Payton Smith was the top finisher for the North Dakota State men's cross country team at the SDSU Classic Friday evening. It was the first time in Smith's collegiate career that he was the No. 1 runner for the Bison.
Smith (Carrington, N.D.) placed 14th overall to lead the Bison men, finishing the eight-kilometer course in 26:04.76. Bison junior
Keiser Freetly was 16th in a time of 26:07.03, and NDSU sophomore
Isaac Huber took 19th in 26:12.64.
NDSU had a pack of three runners complete the team scoring for the Bison. Freshmen
Mason Kindel (26:26.33) and
Tyson Mahar (26:27.39) were 22nd and 23rd, respectively, and
Jake Arason finished 24th for NDSU.
South Dakota State won the men's team title with 15 points, North Dakota took second with 65 points, and the Bison were third in the team standings with 74.
