MANHATTAN, Kan. – The North Dakota State men's golf team climbed the leaderboard on Monday in the first day of the K-State Wildcat Invitational, firing the second-best round of the afternoon session at Colbert Hills.
After a tough first round that saw the Bison sitting in 11
th in the 13-team field, NDSU shot a 295 in round two, climbing four spots up the leaderboard to sit seventh heading into the final day.
Leading the Bison through two rounds is sophomore
Jack Johnson, who sits in a tie for ninth overall and is playing as an individual. Johnson shot a +3 score of 75 in the first round of the day. He would follow it up with a 71 in round two, cutting one stroke and climbing 17 places up the leaderboard to sit at +2 through 36 holes.
Johnson is tied for second in the field with 23 pars in the tournament. He also had six birdies on the day and ranks third overall in Par 4 scoring.
Nate Adams carded the best round of the afternoon for the Bison as he shot a -3 round of 69 in the second round to climb 38 places into a tie for 14
th overall after day one. Adams shot the best score of the second round in the entire field and the fifth best round of the tournament. His 69 is the best round of the year for Adams, as he becomes the third Bison to shoot in the 60s this season.
After just one birdie in the first round, Adams carded three birdies and also scored an eagle on the par-5 16
th hole. Adams is tied for sixth in the tournament field with 22 pars. He is in the top 25 in par 3, par 4 and par 5 scoring.
Through 36 holes,
Brock Winter sits in tie for 23
rd overall, while
Josh Galvin is in a tie for 30
th, in the 75-golfer field. Winter carded rounds of 76 and 75 and sits at +7 heading into the final day. Winters had six birdies and 21 pars.
Galvin scored rounds of 78 and 74 and is one shot behind Winter at +8. Galvin carded 18 pars and seven birdies.
The Bison will wrap up the Wildcat Invitational on Tuesday. The third round is set to begin with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. NDSU's team will be teeing off on holes 8 through 10, while Johnson will tee off on 15.
