Bison Volleyball Travels to West Coast for Cal Tournament

This Week
The North Dakota State volleyball team (3-3) treks to the west coast for the Cal Tournament in Berkeley, Calif., on Friday and Saturday. The Bison open the weekend against Butler on Friday at Noon CT, before taking on California at 9:00 p.m. CT. NDSU will wrap up the trip against Nevada on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. CT

Looking Back at Last Week
The Bison went 2-1 last week at the Windy City Classic, including wins over Charlotte, 3-2, and Niagara, 3-0. Ali Hinze and Alexis Boling were named to the Windy City Classic All-Tournament Team. Hinze totaled 35 kills and 30 digs, while Boling added in 23 kills with a .409 hitting percentage. Hinze has been named to an All-Tournament Team in two straight weeks after earning on a spot on the Green Bay Invite All-Tournament Team to open the season.
Last Time in California
NDSU continues is four week road swing and travels to the state of California for the first time since 2015. The Bison went 2-1 on the road trip after picking up wins over Cal State Fullerton, 3-1, and Yale, 3-1, at the San Francisco Challenge in San Francisco, Calif.
Hitting Double Digits
Four Bison reached double digits in kills against Charlotte last week with Syra Tanchin setting the pace with 17. Ali Hinze (15), Alexandria Hicks (12) and Alexis Boling (11) also hit double figures in kills. It marked the first time since 2019 that at least four Bison reached double digits in kills in a single match.
Filling the Stat Sheet
Ali Hinze logged back-to-back double-doubles against Charlotte (16 digs, 15 kills) and Chicago State (13 kills, 10 digs). She pushed her career double-double total up to 11 after posting nine last season. It's also the fourth time in her career posting at least two straight double-doubles.
Block Party
Michelle Glover has registered a team-best 24.0 total blocks and is averaging 1.20 per set through the first six matches. She's contributed at least three total blocks in each match this season, including a season-high eight in the season opener against UNI.
Making an Impact Early
Raegen Reilly and Abby Stark have wasted no time making an impact in their first season. Reilly has distributed a team-best 148 assists, including a match-high 51 assists in the win over Green Bay.
On the defensive end of the floor, Stark has compiled a team-high 61 digs and is averaging 3.05 per set. She has reached double figures in digs three times and tallied a season-best 21 digs against Green Bay.
Hanger Keeps Climbing
Kaylee Hanger contributed 32 digs last week, including a season-high 16 in the win over Niagara to increase her career total to 842. She moved up two spots on the NDSU all-time digs list and is now tied for 33rd place with Amanda Murphy (1999-02)
Tanchin Cracks 400
Syra Tanchin leads the Bison on the offensive side with 69 total kills and 3.00 per set. She notched a career-best 21 kills to go along with a .486 hitting percentage in the win over Green Bay. Tanchin has also surpassed the 400 career kills mark with 461 over two seasons.
The Series vs. Butler
These two teams have only met twice with the series deadlocked, 1-1. In their most recent meeting in 2011, NDSU topped Butler, 3-0, after Jennifer Lopez notched a double-double with a match-high 37 assists and team-best 17 digs.
The Series vs. Cal
These two programs have only met twice with Cal winning both meetings. In their most recent encounter in 2019, the Bears topped the Bison, 3-1, at the NDSU Classic in front 1,166 spectators at Benton Bunker Fieldhouse. Kelley Johnson contributed 22 assists with nine digs.
The Series vs. Nevada
This will be the first all-time meeting.
