PEORIA, Ill. – The North Dakota State men's cross country team continued its season-long ascent on Friday afternoon at the Bradley Pink Classic, taking seventh place out of 35 teams competing in the meet.
A pair of Grand Forks, N.D., natives led the Bison to their strong team showing. Junior
Jake Arason finished 22nd overall out of 290 runners, clocking a personal-best 23:59.7 for the eight-kilometer race at Newman Golf Course. Freshman
Hunter McHenry took 41st place in 24:13.6 as NDSU's No. 2 runner.
Bison sophomore
Symon Keiser placed 47th in 24:19.4,
Payton Smith was 54th in 24:24.3, and
Hunter Klimek rounded out the team scoring for NDSU in 65th with a time of 24:32.4.
NDSU's top five runners all finished among the top 23 percent of the 290 runners in the meet.
Friday's result was a marked improvement over one year ago at the Bradley Pink Classic, when the NDSU men took 19th in the team standings. Arason was the top Bison runner for the second year in a row at Bradley.
The trip to Peoria served as the final tune-up for the Bison men before the Summit League Championships are held in Grand Forks on Oct. 29.
