MARANA, Ariz. – The North Dakota State men's golf team closed day one of the Dove Mountain Intercollegiate atop the team standings on Monday as the Bison sit 14 strokes in front of tournament host Valparaiso after two rounds.
The Bison placed all five scoring golfers inside the top 17 in the 41-golfer field, led by
Nate Deziel, who fired a -1 round of 71 in the second round to climb seven spots into a tie for fifth overall. Deziel carded five birdies and an eagle through 36 holes to sit at +4 for the event.
One shot back for NDSU is
Nate Adams, who holds seventh overall at +5 following the first two rounds. Adams had seven birdies on the day, including five in the second round when he shot even par.
Jack Johnson and
Brock Winter sit tied for third for the Bison, as the duo ended the day in a tie for 13
th overall. Johnson fired 14 pars, a birdie and an eagle to shoot even par in the second round and climb 10 places.
Winter picked up four birdies on the day, shooting two in each round. Winter was third after round one but fired an 80 in the second round.
Ian Simonich finished as a scoring golfer for the Bison in both rounds with scores of 78 and 77 and sits 17
th overall at +11. Simonich had 22 pars and two birdies on the day.
The second round was suspended due to darkness with three teams still on the course.
NDSU is slated to return to action Tuesday morning with third round tee times slated for an 8 a.m. start.
