PAWLEYS ISLAND, S.C. –
Brock Winter led the way for the Bison and sits atop the leaderboard as the North Dakota State men's golf team opened up the Golfweek/Any Given Tuesday Intercollegiate on Monday at the True Blue Golf Club.
Winter's opening round helped the Bison to a tie atop the leaderboard, matching up with Jacksonville State at -3 as a team.
Winter fired an opening round 68 to lead the 48-golfer field by one shot after the first of three days. Winter's round started with a birdie on the par-5 first hole and he would go on to make the turn at -3 with three birdies and six pars. The sophomore would birdie the 10
th to begin the bac nine and then reeled of five-straight pars. Winter closed the day with a bogey, par and then birdie on 18 to sit at -4.
One shot behind Winter and tied for second overall after the first of three rounds is
Nate Adams, who opened up his event with a 69. Adams matched Winter with a team best five birdies on the day, as he also carded 11 pars and two bogeys. Adams was -1 after 10, but carded back-to-back birdies on 14 and15 to move up the leaderboard.
Jack Johnson sits third for the Bison after day one, finishing his opening round in a tie for 16
th place with a round of 73. Johnson would birdie two of the last three holes before making the turn and sat at -1 until the 13
th. The sophomore would bogey three of the next four to fall back to +1 for the day.
Nate Deziel rounded out the scoring for the Bison on day on as he finished with a 75. Deziel had a triple bogey to start the day and followed it up with a bogey on the second. However, despite the rough start, the senior shot -1 the rest of the way and finished the round at +3 in a tie for 25
th.
The Bison will be back on the course early on Tuesday, set to tee off with the second round beginning at 6:30 a.m. CT.
Josh Galvin, playing as an individual, will tee off first for NDSU. The rest of the Bison are slated to get underway at 7:58 a.m. CT.
