Bison Match Record on Day One of The Stampede at the Creek

ELKHORN, Neb. – The North Dakota State men's golf team tied the school record for a single round on Monday as the Bison opened up a 17-shot lead on day one of The Stampede at The Creek.

The Bison fired a -14 round 274 in the second round at the Golf Course at Indian Creek to match a -14 round of 274 at the Crusader Collegiate in September of 2019 for the NDSU single round school record. The score was six shots better than the season best round for the Bison heading into the day, a -8 round of 276 at the ODU/OBX Intercollegiate in October.

Brock Winter led the way for the Bison in the record-setting second round as he flirted with the Bison individual school record for a round as he carded a -7 of 65 on the 7,242-yard par-72 course. Winter had a bogey-free round as he finished with seven birdies and 11 pars, setting a new career best. Winter's previous best round was a -6 score of 66 at the Golfweek Spring Invitational in April of 2021.

Winter sits in a tie for second overall in a field of 54. He carded a 74 in the first round before closing with a 65 to end the day at -5. Winter, who sits three shots behind leader Parker Govern of Western Illinois, is tied with fellow Bison Jack Johnson.

Johnson carded an even par round to begin the day before shooting a -5 round of 67 to end day one. Johnson had an eagle early in his second round and went on to shoot four birdies and just one bogey.

All six Bison competing in the event ended day one in the top 15 in the field. Nate Adams sits two shots behind Winter and Johnson after rounds of 70 and 71 on the day to sit in a tie for fourth. Adams had a total of eight birdies on the day.

Ian Simonich is in a tie for seventh after 36 holes, sitting at -1. Simonich was tied with Adams for the Bison lead after the first round, as he also cared a 70 to open up the day. The freshman finished the afternoon with a 73. Like Adams, Simonich also had eight birdies on the day.

Josh Galvin sits in a tie for 10th overall and one shot behind Galvin after rounds of 73 and 71 on the day. Galvin sits at even par headed into the final day and round.

Nate Deziel rounds out the lineup for the Bison after a +1 day to sit in a two-way tie for 14th. Deziel opened with a 71 and closed the second round with a 74 to finish the day with the Bison all well within the top third of the field.

The Bison lead all teams in every major statistical category, including par 3 scoring (+5), par 4 scoring (-2), par 5 scoring (-16), pars (144), birdies (41) and eagles (1). NDSU also had just 30 bogeys and were the only team not to card a double bogey or worse on the day.

The Bison are slated to close out the event on Tuesday. The final round will begin with tee times starting at 9 a.m.
