South Dakota Challenge Awaits Bison Track & Field this Week

4/20/2022 12:28:00 PM

The North Dakota State University track & field teams will travel to Vermillion, S.D., to compete at the South Dakota Challenge this Thursday-Saturday, Apr. 21-23.

In an effort to take advantage of better weather conditions, the original meet schedule was expanded from a two-day meet on Friday and Saturday to a three-day meet with distance events and the 400m hurdles being held on Thursday evening.

Under the revised schedule, the meet will begin at 5 p.m. Thursday with the 400m hurdles, 3000m steeplechase, 1500m, 800m, and 5000m on the track.

The pole vault, javelin, hammer throw, and 200m dash will be held on Friday, with the remainder of the events scheduled for Saturday.

Several NDSU multi-event athletes will also compete at Northern State University in Aberdeen, S.D., on Friday and Saturday.

The Bison currently have nine performances ranked in the Top 50 on the NCAA performance list this season, led by three women's throwers. Amanda Anderson is No. 5 in the nation in the discus, Amy Phillips is No. 8 in the hammer throw, and Kari Wolfe is No. 14 in the javelin.

Trevor Otterdahl (18th in shot put, 29th in hammer) and Kristoffer Thomsen (19th in shot put) are the highest-ranked NDSU men for the outdoor season.
