Deziel Extends Lead, Bison 2nd After Day Two of Summit League Championship

NEWTON, Kan. – North Dakota State's Nate Deziel extended his lead at the 2022 Summit League Championship on Monday at the Sand Creek Station Golf Course, as he fired a -4 round of 68 to grow his lead in the individual standings to six shots with one round remaining.
 
For the second-straight day, Deziel shot the low score of the round as he followed up an opening round 65 with his 68 in round two, moving to -11 after 36 holes. Deziel holds a 6-shot lead over Denver's Jackson Solem headed into the final day on Tuesday.
 
Deziel started the day with five-straight pars and then carded back-to-back birdies. Following three more pars, Deziel went on another birdie run with three straight to move to -5. He closed out the round with four pars before finishing with a bogey on the final hole.
 
Deziel and teammate Nate Adams lead the tournament field with 13 birdies. Deziel's two bogeys through 36 holes is also a tournament best.
 
As a team, the Bison sit in second overall, three shots behind Denver after posting a +1 round of 289. Denver posted a -7 round of 281 for the second-straight day to take the lead from NDSU, as they sit at -14 headed into the final round.
 
Jack Johnson had the second-best round of the day for the Bison and the eighth-best round overall in the field on day two as he carded an even-par 72. Johnson finished with a pair of birdies and a pair of bogeys to go along with 14 pars on the day. Johnson climbed 10 spots up the leaderboard and sits 40th overall at +10.
 
Adams is sitting second overall for the Bison and in a tie for 11th overall after 36 holes following a 75 in round two. Adams overcame a +6 start to the day through the first six holes, carding five birdies to climb back in to contention for a top-10 spot. Adams is five shots out of second and three shots out of fifth heading into the final day.
 
Ian Simonich was the final counting round for the Bison on Monday, as he finished with a +2 round of 74 to move up two spots into a tie for 21st overall. The freshman had one birdie and three bogeys to go along with 14 pars in the round.
 
Wrapping up the day for the Bison was Brock Winter, who finished with a 76 in round two. Winter fell into a tie for 16th overall and sits at +1 after an opening round 69 on Sunday.
 
The Bison are set to begin the final round at 8:50 a.m. on Tuesday, as Johnson begins the tee times for NDSU. Deziel will have the final tee time, set to get underway at 9:30 a.m.
 
NDSU will once again be paired with Denver and Oral Roberts. ORU is third overall in the team standings, eight shots behind NDSU at -3.
