North Dakota State Preseason No. 1 in AFCA FCS Coaches Poll

WACO, Texas - Defending national champion North Dakota State will begin the 2022 season as the No. 1 team in the AFCA FCS Coaches Top 25 poll, which was released Monday, Aug. 15.

North Dakota State went 14-1 overall and won its ninth national title in 11 seasons last year. The Bison earned 24 of 25 possible first-place votes in the poll.

Montana, a national quarterfinalist last year, is No. 2 in the preseason poll followed by South Dakota State, which received one first-place vote. National runner-up Montana State starts the year No. 4 followed by Villanova at No. 5.

The Missouri Valley Football Conference has five ranked teams including No. 8 Missouri State, No. 9 Southern Illinois and No. 21 Northern Iowa.
