LARAMIE, Wyo. – The North Dakota State women's soccer team suffered its first loss of the season on Friday, as the Bison fell to Wyoming 3-1 at the Madrid Sports Complex.
The Bison had a couple chances early, but Wyoming scored three goals in less than eight minutes later in the first half to take control and NDSU was unable to recover.
The Cowgirls took the lead with a curling shot into the top corner from outside the box from Jamie Tatum in the 27th minute. Seven minutes later, another long-range effort off the foot of Alyssa Bedard from outside of the box doubled the Wyoming lead.
20 seconds later, Wyoming drew a foul from the Bison defense in the penalty area, giving Wyoming a penalty kick. Tatum slotted the penalty into the bottom right corner for Wyoming's final goal.
The Bison would generate some offense and picked up a response five minutes later as Olivia Lovick scored her second goal of the season in the 39th minute for the final goal of the game. Devon Kavanagh fired a shot that was saved by Allyson Fischer, but the rebound came straight to Lovick, who tucked it away with her left foot to score her 10th career goal.
Lovick's goal was also the third time that the Lino Lakes, Minnesota native has scored in back-to-back games, with the last time occurring in her final two games of her freshman season.
Both teams would have a pair of shots on goal in the second half, but neither team would add to the scoresheet.
Bison goalkeeper Abby Wilkinson finished with seven saves. Fischer made four saves for Wyoming.
North Dakota State will look to rebound on Sunday, as the Bison travel to Greeley, Colorado to take on Northern Colorado. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. and the game will be televised on ESPN+.
