MONTERREY, Mexico – The North Dakota State men's golf team finished second overall at the Monterrey International Intercollegiate on Saturday, Oct. 28th, to close out the fall semester with a school record -28 in the 54-hole tournament at Club Campestre.
The Bison put together rounds of 275, 280, and 281 for a 54-hole total of 836 to take second place in the 10-team tournament, one shot behind Utah State University at -29.
NDSU finished with three of the top 16 rounds in program history and broke the 54-hole record of -26, previously set at the ODU/OBX Intercollegiate in October of 2019, by two strokes.
Nate Adams (67-68-69—204) led the way for the Bison on the final day after carding a -3 in the final round to finish in sixth place at -12 overall for the 54-hole event. Adams finished one stroke behind his career best and school record, the third best overall in program history.
Ian Simonich (72-65-70—207), who competed as an individual for the Bison, also cracked the top 10, finishing tied for ninth place at -9. Simonch shot a career best round of 65 and matched a career best 54-hole tournament with a three-round total of 207.
Gavin Cronkhite (71-69-69—209) shot back-to-back rounds of 69 to finish -7 overall and tied for 13th place, a career best 54-hole total.
Jake Skarperud (70-69-70—209) also finished the tournament with a career best -7 to match Cronkhite in 13th.
Jack Johnson (68-73-74—215) finished tied for 25th place at -1 and
Josh Galvin (70-73-78—221) finished tied for 44th place at +5.
The Bison, who close the fall semester with top five finishes in every event, including a pair of runner-up finishes, will jump back into action at the Loyola Intercollegiate in Goodyear, Arizona in late February. The event, which will be held on Feb. 25-27, will be hosted by Loyola Maryland at the Palm Valley Course.
