SOMIS, Calif. – North Dakota State men's golf opened up the Bill Cullum Invitational on Monday, sitting in second place overall after 36 holes on the mountain ridge golf course of The Saticoy Club.
The Bison opened up the tough course with a +5 round of 293 and closed the day with a +4 round of 292 to sit seven shots off the lead, held by host Cal State Northridge (+2) in the 14-team field. NDSU is two shots ahead of Hawaii and UC Riverside in third at +11.
Jack Johnson led the way for the Bison through 36 holes, sitting in second overall following an opening round 70 and a 73 to wrap up the day. Johnson is one shot off the lead, held by Davis McDowell (-2) of UC San Diego, sitting in a five-way tie at -1.
Gavin Cronkhite led the way for the Bison in the second round, matching Johnson's team best 70 on the day. Cronkhite opened up with a 76, but climbed 26 spots on the leaderboard in the afternoon session to sit in a tie for 15
th overall at +2 through two rounds.

Josh Galvin, who opened up with an ever par round of 72 on the 7,008-yard course. Galvin shot a 75 in the second round and sits at +3 overall.
Jake Skarperud wrapped up the scoring for the Bison in round one, shooting a 75 to open his day, while
Nate Adams shot a 74 in the second round to close out the Bison scoring. Adams sits in 35
th (+6) after rounds of 76 and 74, while Skarperud sits in 66
th (+12) following a 75 and 81.
Rylin Petry shot back-to-back rounds of 76 and sits in 42
nd at +8.
The Bison will close out the Bill Cullum Invitational on Tuesday with the third and final round. Tee times are slated for 8:30 a.m. PT, 10:30 a.m. CT.
