The North Dakota State University men's track & field team has qualified 10 entries for the NCAA West Preliminary Rounds held May 24-27 in Sacramento, Calif.

Nine Bison men will compete, with senior Trevor Otterdahl qualified in the hammer throw and shot put.

The top 12 finishers in each event at the Preliminary Rounds will advance to the NCAA Championships in Austin, Texas, on June 7-10. Otterdahl will be the top-ranked Bison entering the meet, standing at No. 5 in the West for the hammer throw this season. Javelin throwers Benji Phillips (9th) and Matt Kraft (12th) will both also enter the meet among the top 12.

How to Advance
The top 12 finishers in each event at the Preliminary Rounds will advance to the NCAA Championships in Austin, Texas, on June 7-10.

In the hammer, javelin, and shot put, all 48 competitors will receive a single round of three attempts. The top 12 marks overall advance to the NCAA Championships.

In the pole vault, the final 12 vaulters remaining in the competition will advance to the NCAA Championships, with a potential jump-off used if a tiebreaker for the 12th spot is needed.

In the 200m and 800m, the top three finishers from each heat plus the next six fastest times (24) will advance to the quarterfinals on Friday. The top three finishers from each quarterfinal heat plus the next three fastest times (12) will advance to the NCAA Championships.
