WEST DES MOINES, Iowa – The North Dakota State men's golf team held firm to second place at the Zach Johnson Invitational on Tuesday, Sept. 26, wrapping up the event at Glen Oaks Country Club with an even par round to finish at -15.
The Bison took second overall behind champion Iowa State, who finished at -23. NDSU finished 18 shots ahead of third place DePaul (+3) and 25 shots ahead of fourth place South Dakota (+10).
Jack Johnson led the way for the Bison on the final day, as he shot his second-straight round of 69 to climb into a tie for third overall at -4 for the week. Johnson carded five birdies in his final round to move up from 11
th to begin the day.
Gavin Cronkhite held the top spot for NDSU on the final day, as he remained in second overall. Cronkhite had five birdies in his final round, as he shot an even par 71 to close out the tournament at -7.
Nate Adams (-1) and
Josh Galvin (E) rounded out the top four for NDSU in the event. Adams shot a 73 in the final round, finishing in ninth overall, while Galvin shot a 74 to wrap up in 12
th.
Jake Skarperud moved up seven spots in the final round, giving five Bison a top-20 finish as he shot an even-par 71 to finish in 18
th at +2 for the week.
Beck Erholtz, playing as an individual, also moved up on the final day with a 73. Jumping two spots to 26
th.
The Bison will be back in action in two weeks at the Bill Cullum Invitational in Somis, Calif. The event, which is hosted by Cal State Northridge on Oct. 9-10, will be held at The Saticoy Club.
