NDSU Men’s Golf Holds Top Spot After Day Two in Arizona

GOODYEAR, Ariz. – The North Dakota State men's golf team held onto the top spot of the Loyola Intercollegiate on Monday at the Palm Valley Golf Club, shooting a -13 round of 275 for the second-straight day to sit at -26 through 36 holes.
 
All six Bison golfers competing on Monday carded a round under par. The Bison also hold a four-shot lead over Loyola Maryland and a nine-shot lead over Northern Colorado in third heading into the final day of the 20-team event.
 
Nate Adams led the way for the Bison on day two, carding his second-straight round of 67 to sit in a tie for second place at -10. Adams opened his day with back-to-back birdies but fell back to -1 after a bogey on the fourth. Following three pars, Adams reeled off five consecutive birdies and added another two holes later to move to -7. Adams would bogey the final two holes and sits two-shots off of Delaware's Arsit Areephun (-12) at the top of the individual leaderboard.
 
Ian Simonich also carded a round of 67 on day two, moving up the leaderboard as he sits in a tie for 20th overall at -4 following 36 holes. Simonich started with a bogey early but reeled off five-straight pars before a birdie, birdie, eagle stretch to get to -3 for the day. He would drop a shot with two bogeys and one birdie over the next five holes, but Simonich recorded birdies on three of his final four holes to claim a -5 round.
 
Jake Skarperud sits second among the Bison and fifth overall on the individual leaderboard after he shot a 71 in his second round, moving to -8 for the three-day event. Skarperud had six birdies in his round along with eight pars. He enters the final day in a four-way tie for fifth, four shots off the lead.
 
Gavin Cronkhite picked up a scoring round for the Bison on day two, carding a -2 round of 70. Cronkhite carded seven pars and two birdies over his first nine holes. Following a birdie to get to -3 for the day, he would add a pair of bogeys, but responded with three pars and a birdie on his final hole.
 
Jack Johnson sits in 26th overall after the second round, following a 70 on Sunday with a -1 round of 71 on Monday. Johnson carded five birdies, including one on his opening and final holes of the day, along with nine pars. Johnson's standing has the top four Bison sitting inside the top 30 heading into the final round.
 
Playing as an individual, Josh Galvin moved under par in his second round, carding a -2 round of 70 to move to -2 after an ever par in the opening round. Galvin picked up a bogey on his third hole, but responded with two birdies and an eagle over the next four holes. He added two birdies later in the round, along with four-straight pars to end his day. Galvin sits in a tie for 34th overall entering Tuesday.
 
NDSU will wrap up the Loyola Intercollegiate Tuesday afternoon with the third and final round at the Palm Valley Golf Club. Tee times are slated for 8:45 a.m. CT with the Bison team set to tee off on holes one through three to begin their rounds.
