
Hurdlers, Sprinters, Jumpers Shine at NDSU Spring Classic

FARGO, N.D. – The North Dakota State women's track & field performances at the NDSU Spring Classic were highlighted by the sprint and jump groups on Sunday at the Terrence Dahl and Donna Beres Track Complex.
The Bison women claimed the top five spots in the 100m hurdles, competing at home for the first time this outdoor season. Sydney Arndt captured the event title, running a personal-best 13.66 to move to No. 6 in NDSU history. Freshman Jordyn Davis was the runner-up in 13.91, and Marvelous Onwualo took third in 14.07. Kate Laqua and Aizlynn Krafka finished fourth and fifth.
Sophomore Paige Renschler won the 100m dash in a personal-best 11.46 to climb to No. 3 in NDSU history. Anika Larson, who ran unattached, finished second in 11.67. Kendra Mehrkens claimed third in 12.07 and also placed third in the 200m dash with 24.84.
NDSU finished 1-2-3-4 in the 400m hurdles. Kendal Stingle moved to ninth in NDSU history after winning the event in a personal-best 1:00.27. Laqua finished in second in 1:01.78, and Brooke Cina took third in a personal-best 1:03.05. Sophia Headley finished fourth, and Onwualo took seventh.
Junior Arienne Birch cleared 5-10.75 (1.80m) to claim the high jump title. Birch now ranks in the NCAA's Top 25 based on marks heading into the weekend.
Grace VanErp jumped 40-09.00 (12.42m) to win the triple jump title. She now ranks No. 11 in NDSU program history. Sophie Brakke placed seventh in the triple jump.
Freshman Jenna Schutt took second in the javelin in her Bison debut, throwing 150-5 (45.85m). She now ranks No. 8 in NDSU history. Casidi Pehler, who competed unattached, took fourth place with 127-2 (38.77m).
Aizlynn Krafka cleared 12-05.50 (3.80m) to win the pole vault title. Pehler claimed third place with Julia Gherardi, Allison Otto-Fitzsimons, and Alyson Krug finishing 5-6-7.
Freshman Alyson Kleyman won the 3,000m steeplechase in 11:11.65. Ava Dunnigan placed fourth in the event.
Adison Kapitzke threw 47-03.75 (14.42m) to win the shot put. Riley Quinn threw 45-03.00 (13.79m) to place third, with Grace Steffen and Ashley Rusthoven finishing fourth and fifth.
Elise Wisnewski finished second in the 400m in a personal-best 55.46. Soraya Espino took third in 56.54. Corene Moeller, Riika Tirkkonen, and Ava Ligtenberg also placed inside the top 10.
Ashley Stewart (181-0 / 55.18m) and Grace Steffen (177-0 / 53.95m) both registered hammer throw PRs at the NDSU Spring Classic.
