RIVERSIDE, Iowa –
Rylin Petry led the North Dakota State men's golf team on the final day of the Hawkeye Invitational to climb to a fourth-place finish at Blue Top Ridge on Tuesday afternoon.
Petry (74-73-67—214) fired a season-low round of 67 to close out the final round of the tournament. The senior led the team with seven birdies and eight holes of par on the day, logging just two bogeys for the round. Petry carded a round of -5 to soar 17 spots up the leaderboard, finishing fifth at -2 overall.
Jake Skarperud (78-75-67—220) matched Petry's scorecard for the final round. Skarperud shot his best round of the season with six birdies and 11 even holes, before carding his only bogey of the round on his final hole. Skarperud finished -5 on the day, climbing to a tie for 20
th at +4 overall.
Gabe Benson (77-76-70—223) and
Joey Mackinac (77-77-71—225) also recorded final rounds below par.
Benson was clean through the back nine, firing four birdies and five holes at par to sit -4 through his first nine holes. Benson then hit a tough patch in the front nine, logging two more birdies and three pars to finish -2 for the round. The senior landed in a tie for 28
th at +7 overall.
Mackinac, who played as an individual, recorded the lone Bison eagle for the tournament on the fourth hole, along with a trio of birdies, to improve his career-best round by two shots after finishing -1 on the day. The freshman ended +9 overall in a tie for 38
th.
Carter White (69-78-77—224) tabbed the final scoring round for NDSU. White picked up four birdies and had eight even-pars to card a round of +5, finishing at +8 overall in a tie for 34
th.
Andrew Ballou (75-75-78—228) led the team with 11 holes at par in the final round. Ballou started the day with a double bogey, before settling into a rhythm and logging his 11 pars through the next 13 holes, before finishing the round with two birdies. Ballou was +6 on the day to land +12 overall in a tie for 48
th.
NDSU (295-299-281—875) tabbed a round of -7 to match their season-low round and climb four spots into a fourth-place finish.
The NDSU men's golf team will have just over a week off before concluding the season at the Summit League Championships. The Championships will be held at Longbow Golf Club in Mesa, Arizona, on May 3-5.
