NDSU Soccer Falls to Marquette

FARGO, N.D. - North Dakota State soccer dropped a 2-0 decision to Marquette Sunday afternoon at Dacotah Field.
Marquette (2-0-0) struck early, with Megan Murray capitalizing on an errant back pass to lead to a breakaway, where she found the back of the net in the 10th minute to give the Golden Eagles a 1-0 advantage.
The Bison (0-2-0) applied some pressure and generated opportunities throughout the opening half, including shots from Morgan Russmann and Gabrielle Garrett, but Marquette goalkeeper Mia Hurd turned aside both Bison shots on target.
NDSU goalkeeper Payton Mulberry kept the Bison within one heading into the break, making a pair of saves in the opening half, moving into ninth all-time on the career saves list at NDSU, passing Karli Kopietz at 100.
The Bison continued to push for the equalizer in the second half. Russmann put two more shots toward goal, including an attempt that hit the crossbar and the rebound ended up in the net, only to be called back for offsides.
With NDSU pushing numbers forward, Marquette capitalized and doubled its lead in the 85th minute when Murray scored her second goal of the afternoon on a rebound off of a counter attack.
Mulberry finished with three saves for the Bison, sitting at 102 for her career. NDSU held a 5-3 advantage in corner kicks.
The Bison return to Dacotah Field Thursday, Aug. 20, hosting Minnesota at 6 p.m.
