NDSU Soccer Opens Summit League Play at North Dakota

FARGO, N.D. - North Dakota State soccer opens up Summit League play on Thursday, September 24, traveling north to Grand Forks to take on North Dakota in the first of two matches with the Fighting Hawks this season. Kickoff between the Bison and UND is set for 3 p.m. at Bronson Field.

Series History
The Bison face North Dakota for the 23rd time in series history. NDSU leads the series with a 13-7-2 record, including a 11-4-2 record in the Division I era and a 6-2-1 record since UND joined the Summit League in 2018. The Bison are 7-4 all-time in Grand Forks, including wins in the last two trips; 2-1 in 2024 and 2-0 in 2022.

A New Era for Soccer in The Summit League
The 2026 season marks a new era for Summit League soccer, as the league will begin pod play. Each pod will have four teams, with NDSU's pod including North Dakota, South Dakota and South Dakota State. Pods will play home and away matches within their pod and then play the other pod just once, two home and two away. The top three from each pod will qualify for the postseason.

Garrett Scores Dramatic Goal vs FAU
Amaya Garrett scored her first goal since freshman season to rescue a 1-1 draw against Florida Atlantic. Garrett made a long run before banking in a shot off the far post in the final minute, tying the game 1-1.

As a freshman, Garrett scored four goals for NDSU before moving to the center back role. The fourth-year player has started all 63 games since stepping on campus and has logged over 5,500 minutes.

Last Season vs. North Dakota
NDSU controlled much of the possession and outshot North Dakota, but couldn't find the back of the net in a 1-0 loss at Dacotah Field.

The Bison held a 12-8 advantage in total shots and a 7-4 edge in shots on goal while maintaining 58 percent possession. North Dakota broke through in the 62nd minute when Yui Fujii scored on a free kick from just outside the penalty area for the lone goal of the match.

Hannah Arnold nearly gave the Bison a lead in the third minute, but UND cleared the ball off the line. Tyreese Zacher, Devon Kavanagh and Isabel Garcia also tested Grace Miller in the first half. Miller also picked a Mikayla Carkhuff shot out of the top corner in the second half.

North Dakota State will return home to Dacotah Field for the first Summit League home game of the season on Sunday, September 27, as the Bison welcome in South Dakota. NDSU will take on the Coyotes in the first of two matches this season, with kickoff set for 1 p.m.
