Brandon Hunt joined the North Dakota State baseball staff as an assistant coach in July 2021 and was elevated to assistant coach/recruiting coordinator in December 2023.
In 2025, Hunt guided the Bison through the No. 1 non-conference schedule in the nation on their way to their third Summit League Tournament championship in program history. NDSU went on to make its third appearance in the NCAA Tournament in program history in the Fayetteville Regional. Hunt aided in the development of seven All-Summit League selections,  including Jake Schaffner, who became the first player in program history to be named the Summit League Defensive Player of the Year.
In his first season at NDSU in 2022, Hunt helped lead NDSU to its first Summit League regular season title in program history after assembling a 30-17 (17-5 Summit) overall record. Offensively, NDSU set a program record for stolen bases in a single-season with 87. The Bison also connected on 50 home runs, which ranked second in the Summit League and fifth in NDSU history. He also assisted in the development of eight All-Summit League selections.
Hunt comes to NDSU after spending the last three seasons at the University of Minnesota where he served as the defensive coach, third base coach and assistant hitting coach. He helped develop several elite infield defenders in his time with the Golden Gophers. In 2020, infielders Jack Wassel and Zach Raabe were named to the D1 Baseball Top 10 position power rankings at third and second base, respectively. Raabe went on to garner 2020 Collegiate Baseball Second Team All-American honors, was named to the 2021 All-B1G Second Team and was selected in the eighth round of the MLB Draft by the Milwaukee Brewers. Hunt also aided in the development of outfielders Easton Bertrand and Brett Batemen, who finished the 2021 season with a 1.000 fielding percentage.
Prior to his stint in Minnesota, Hunt spent two seasons as the head coach at Upper Iowa from 2017-18 where his teams won over 30 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) games and had a pair of players earn NSIC Gold Glove honors. In the classroom, his teams finished with a GPA over 3.0 each season.
Hunt began his coaching career at Augustana where he started as an assistant coach from 2012-14 before being elevated to the lead assistant coach from 2014-16. He helped five different Vikings earn All-NSIC honors and a program-record four infielders pick up NSIC Gold Glove Team selections. Hunt also aided in the development of Jack Goih, who was an All-American selection and 2015 MLB Draft pick by the Cleveland Organization.
A native of Rapid City, S.D., Hunt was a utility player at Augustana under Jeff Holm from 2002-06 and helped the Vikings win the programs only North Central Conference title. Hunt graduated from Augustana in 2007 earning his degree in secondary education and history.
