Three North Dakota State University baseball players were selected to Baseball Minnesota's “College Team Minnesota” for 2004.
Senior Jeremiah Piepkorn (Sauk Rapids, MN), was tabbed for the second consecutive year as a first team shortstop and was also awarded Player of the Year honors. He posted a .376 batting average with 17 doubles, four triples, 21 home runs and 56 RBIs in his last year with NDSU.
Piepkorn established several new career records for the Bison, including hits, runs, triples, home runs, and RBIs. His 21 home runs also placed him No. 6 in Division II last season.
Catcher Chris Baso (Menahga, MN) was also a repeat first team selection. Baso finished the season batting .408 with 17 doubles, two triples, seven home runs and 39 RBIs.
Sophomore relief pitcher Neil Wagner received the honor after compiling a record of 6-0 with 12 saves and a 1.40 ERA. Wagner's save total broke the single season team record of seven and lifted him to a tie for the all-time career lead with 15.
To be eligible for the team, players must have either been born in the state of Minnesota or have played their high school baseball there. This is the second year of Baseball Minnesota's “College Team Minnesota.”
North Dakota State finished the 2004 season with a 31-22 record including its first North Central Conference baseball championship in 31 years.
