
Campbell Goes the Distance, Sacramento State Shuts Out North Dakota State

SACRAMENTO, Calif.--Left-hander Matt Campbell threw a complete-game five-hitter as Sacramento State shut out North Dakota State 3-0 in the first of a four-game college baseball series Thursday, Feb. 24.
Campbell evened his record at 1-1, striking out eight and walking none to help the Hornets (3-6) snap a five-game losing streak. North Dakota State (0-5) lost its fifth straight.
Sacramento State scored in the first, fourth and fifth on RBI ground outs. All three runners who scored stole a base on the way and the Hornets had six swipes in the game.
NDSU had runners at second and third in the top of the fifth but could not score, and the Bison left another man on in the eighth.
Starting pitcher Jake Laber (0-1) worked 4 1/3 innings for North Dakota State, allowing all three runs on four hits while striking out one and walking five. He threw 95 pitches.
NDSU's bullpen through hitless ball the rest of the way, but Greg Plecki walked four men in his 2 2/3 innings of relief before Derek Ford and Pat Thielke combined to close out the eighth inning.
North Dakota State shortstop Matt Mossey hit 2-for-4, center fielder Jared Sullivan was 2-for-3, and designated hitter Kole Zimmerman extended his hitting streak to five games (nine overall) with a leadoff single in the fifth.
