
Bison End Year on Winning Note With 10th Victory at Oakland

ROCHESTER, Mich.--North Dakota State concluded its first season of Division I college baseball on a winning note Sunday, May 22, splitting a doubleheader at Oakland University with a 5-0 loss in the opener and a 6-3 victory in the nightcap.
The Bison finished the season 10-43-1 overall with seven wins coming in the month of May. NDSU avoided its first season of single-digit victories since the 1980 and 1982 teams each posted nine wins.
Kole Zimmerman hit run-scoring singles in the third and fourth innings to help North Dakota State take a 5-2 lead in the second game. Tim Erickson hit his first home run in his final collegiate at-bat in the sixth for the final margin of 6-3.
Zimmerman finished the game 3-for-4, Matt Mossey was 2-for-4 with two runs scored, and Erickson walked in his three other plate appearances and scored three times.
Bison starter Brandon Goltz allowed three runs on four hits and four walks in 3 1/3 innings and did not qualify for the win. Reliever Ryan Williams recorded the victory with 2 2/3 innings of scoreless relief and moved his record to 1-3.
Oakland pitcher Aaron Hines threw a four-hit shutout in the first game, holding the Bison to singles by Erickson, Zimmerman, Matt Freudenthal and Jacorian Goldmann.
NDSU starter Derek Ford worked three innings and dropped to 2-4 with the loss. Ford allowed four runs on four hits, walked three and struck out three.
