
Bison Scratch Out 60-58 Win Over Furman

FARGO, N.D. (AP) -- North Dakota State rallied from a nine-point halftime deficit to beat Furman 60-58 Wednesday in college men's basketball.
The Bison (2-2) won it at the free-throw line despite making just 6 of 14 attempts in the second half. NDSU's last field goal was a 3-pointer by Brett Winkelman that tied it at 56-56 with 3:31 to play.
Ben Woodside's free throw with 1:27 left broke a 58-58 tie. Mike Nelson added a free throw with 8 seconds to play for the Bison, who trailed 33-24 at the break.
Furman (3-2) missed two shots as time ran out. The Paladins were just 9-for-29 in the second half after shooting 36 percent in the first half.
Moussa Diagne a career-high 27 points for Furman. Eric Webb added 11 points.
NDSU shot 33 percent in the first half and 54 percent after the break.
Andre Smith had 15 of his career-high 24 points and nine of his 11 rebounds for the Bison after half. Winkelman scored 13 points and Nelson 12 for NDSU.
Nelson sparked a 13-5 second-half run with a 3-pointer that cut the Bison deficit to 37-35 with 14:16 remaining.
Despite its struggles offensively, Furman led from the opening shot until Lucas Moormann's jumper with 4:44 to play gave NDSU its first lead at 53-52. There were two ties and three lead changes down the stretch.
Moormann had 13 rebounds to help the Bison to a 42-34 advantage on the boards. He also had a career-high four blocked shots.
A crowd of 2,392 was on hand for North Dakota State's home opener. The Bison host Wisconsin-Green Bay at 2 p.m. Saturday.
