FARGO, N.D.--Andre Smith scored a career-high 30 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead North Dakota State to an 88-47 college men's basketball win over the University of Mary on Tuesday.
Smith took charge right away for the Bison (10-6), scoring 17 points in the first half as NDSU built a 44-26 lead at intermission on 63 percent field-goal shooting.
Brett Winkelman had 19 points and Ben Woodside chipped in 17 for NDSU.
The loss snapped a three-game Mary winning streak as the Marauders slipped to 7-10 on the year.
North Dakota State finished shooting 57 percent from the field to run its home winning streak to five games. The Bison are 7-1 at home, their only loss being an 83-81 setback to Kansas State.
NDSU outrebounded Mary 44-22 led by Smith's nine and a career-high nine by Sam Sussenguth off the bench.
Mary shot just 32 percent for the game. Fargo North product Eric Erdmann led Mary with 15 points, including the team's first six points.
Mary got within 16-14 on Bill Shetler's 3-pointer early in the first half. The Bison called timeout to regroup, then went on a 28-12 run to close out the first half.
Shetler was Mary's only other scorer in double figures with 10 points.
NDSU was 17-for-19 at the free-throw line. Winkelman and Woodside were both 6-for-6.
North Dakota State played just eight players in the game with the loss of center Lucas Moormann to a torn right ACL and Tom Lunde still on the shelf with a right wrist injury.
Sophomore forward Lorenzo Riley made his first collegiate start in Moormann's place. Riley won the opening tip and finished with six points plus a career-high five blocked shots in 23 minutes.
North Dakota State returns to action Saturday night at Division I independent Winston-Salem State.
