
Medlock, Eastern Michigan Run Past North Dakota State, 74-66

YPSILANTI, Mich.--Carlos Medlock scored a game-high 23 points to lead Eastern Michigan to a 74-66 win over North Dakota State in college men's basketball Wednesday, Jan. 3.
Eastern Michigan improved to 5-8 with its third straight win, and North Dakota State slipped to 8-6 with its second straight loss.
The Eagles led by as many as 20 points in the first half. Eastern Michigan broke open an 11-7 game with 15 unanswered points, including field goals from six different players, over a seven-minute stretch.
Brandon Bowdy put the exclamation point on the Eagles' spurt with a one-handed slam dunk over Bison center Lucas Moormann that made it 29-9 with 8:08 left in the first half.
A free throw by Ben Woodside made it 29-10 and Andre Smith followed with a tip in at 7:10 for NDSU's first field goal in eight minutes.
North Dakota State got a boost off the bench from Sam Sussenguth, who scored a career high 10 points all in the final seven minutes of the first half.
The Bison trailed 40-25 at intermission despite shooting 42 percent from the floor. EMU was 15 of 24 in the first half for 63 percent, including 5-for-8 from the 3-point line.
NDSU got back within eight points when Mike Nelson hit back-to-back 3-pointers to make it 53-45 with eight minutes left, and the Bison got no closer than seven the rest of the way.
Winkelman finished with a team-high 16 points for NDSU, Nelson finished with 15 and Woodside had 14 points with six assists.
Smith had 11 rebounds for the Bison, who outrebounded Eastern Michigan 31-27.
Jarred Axon scored 14 points off the EMU bench. He and Medlock were a combined 14-for-14 at the free throw line, and the Eagles were 18 of 24 altogether.
North Dakota State returns home to host Valley City State next Tuesday, Jan. 9. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Bison Sports Arena in Fargo.
