
North Dakota State Cruises Past Valley City State, 89-50

FARGO, N.D.--North Dakota State put nine players in the scoring column and shot 61 percent to defeat Valley City State 89-50 in college men's basketball Tuesday.
The Bison improved to 9-6 on the year and snapped Valley City State's three-game winning streak, sending the Vikings to 7-9 on the season.
NDSU forward Andre Smith led all players with 20 points on 9-of-11 shooting. Center Lucas Moormann scored 14 of his career-high 17 points in the second half.
Forward Brett Winkelman got his fourth collegiate double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds, and Mike Nelson scored 14 points.
All five starters scored in double digits with Ben Woodside scoring 12 points and adding eight assists and four rebounds.
Off the bench, Austin Pennick and Josh Vaughan each scored four points, and Sam Sussenguth and Lorenzo Riley had two apiece.
Riley tied a career-high with three blocked shots, Pennick added two rebounds and three steals, and Sussenguth chipped in four rebounds, two blocks and an assist.
All four bench players saw at least 15 minutes off action. Tom Lunde did not dress due to a minor injury.
The Bison made 13 of their first 16 shots and cruised to a 39-23 halftime lead.
NDSU had a 44-23 rebounding advantage led by Winkelman's 10 and nine from Smith.
Justin Curry had 15 points and four rebounds for Valley City State, and teammate Jonathan Lindahl had nine points and four rebounds.
North Dakota State returns to action next Tuesday, Jan. 16, against new NCAA Division II member University of Mary. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Bison Sports Arena.
The Marauders are playing their first Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference schedule this season.
