
Toolson, Utah Valley State Hold Off North Dakota State, 66-64

OREM, Utah--Ryan Toolson scored a team-high 20 points, including the game-winning free throws in the final minute, to carry Utah Valley State to a 66-64 win over North Dakota State in college men's basketball Thursday, Feb. 15.
North Dakota State slipped to 15-8 overall and Utah Valley State improved to 18-7. It was the Wolverines' 12th win in 13 home games this season.
Toolson, the second-ranked free-throw shooter in the country, was 7-for-7 at the foul line and the Wolverines made 15 of 21 free throws in the game.
NDSU went on an 8-0 run to take a 57-55 lead inside the 3-minute mark, and the game was tied twice after that before Toolson's 3-pointer put Utah Valley State ahead for good with less than a minute to go.
Bison guard Mike Nelson had a potential game-tying 3-pointer blocked by David Heck before the Bison sent Toolson to the line for the winning shots with 30 seconds left.
NDSU forward Brett Winkelman drained a second-chance 3-pointer at the buzzer for the final margin.
Utah Valley State shot 58 percent in the first half to take a 41-30 halftime lead.
The Bison came back behind the 19 second-half points of guard Ben Woodside, who finished with a game-high 24 points of 9-of-21 shooting.
Winkelman finished with 17 points and seven rebounds, Andre Smith had 11 points and 10 rebounds, and Nelson finished with 10 points and a game-high four assists.
David Heck scored 12 points, and Jordan Brady had seven points and 12 rebounds for Utah Valley State.
North Dakota State had a 35-31 rebounding advantage.
The Bison play their final road game of the season Saturday, Feb. 17, at Texas-Pan American. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. at the UTPA Fieldhouse in Edinburg, Texas.
The Broncs are 13-11 overall and 11-1 at home after defeating South Dakota State 63-50 on Thursday.
