
Bison Close Road Schedule With 74-63 Win at Texas-Pan American

EDINBURG, Texas--Senior forward Andre Smith had game highs of 25 points and nine rebounds to lead North Dakota State to a 74-63 victory over Texas-Pan American in college men's basketball Saturday.
Smith shot 9-for-13 from the field and was 7-for-7 at the free-throw line for the Bison (16-8), who shot 47 percent from the field and converted 19 of 25 free throws.
Guard Mike Nelson added 18 points and three assists, and forward Brett Winkelman had 13 points, five rebounds and three assists for NDSU.
North Dakota State had a 37-23 rebounding advantage, led by Smith's nine and a career-high six from Lorenzo Riley off the bench.
Texas-Pan American (13-12) led by as many as eight points midway through the first half, but the Bison went ahead for good with a Nelson's 3-pointer at the 1:19 mark before taking a 31-26 halftime lead.
NDSU led by as many as 16 points three times in the second half, using a 10-1 run to go up 52-36 midway through the period.
The Broncs were no closer than nine points the rest of the way, despite the 24 points and six rebounds of Kano Edwards, who was 12-for-15 at the foul line.
Brian Burrell had 14 points and Colin Lien scored 13 for Texas-Pan American, which lost for just the second time in 13 home games this season.
North Dakota State is scheduled to close out its year with four straight home games against fellow Division I independents beginning Wednesday, Feb. 21, against Winston-Salem State (5-22).
Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Bison Sports Arena, where NDSU is 9-1 this season and has won 21 of its last 23 home games.
