Langlais Homers Twice to Lead Bison Sweep of Minnesota-Duluth

FARGO, N.D.--Third baseman Ryan Langlais belted two home runs to help North Dakota State complete a doubleheader sweep of Minnesota-Duluth in college baseball Thursday at Newman Outdoor Field. The Bison won the opener 9-3 and the nightcap 8-2.

Langlais was 3-for-3 with five RBIs and two runs scored in the second game. He hit a solo homer in the fifth inning and a two-run shot in the sixth, but it was Langlais' two-run triple in the first that capped a three-run rally and held up as the game-winning hit.

Catcher Kole Zimmerman and shortstop Matt Mossey were both 2-for-4 in the nightcap. Zimmerman had RBI singles in the first and sixth innings and scored a pair of runs.

Bison pitcher Ben Mathiason's third start of the season was his longest outing of the year. Mathiason (1-3) worked six innings and allowed one earned run on three hits, struck out five and walked two for the win.

In the opener, NDSU went up 6-0 with a five-run second inning highlighted by a two-run single from designated hitter Shannon Ekermans and a two-run double from Zimmerman.

Ekermans and first baseman Sebastian Miles both finished 3-for-5. Outfielder Billy Gazich drove in two runs with a his first home run of the year in the fifth inning.

NDSU pitcher Seth Foley (2-2) fanned nine batters over seven innings for the opening-game win. Foley allowed three runs on seven hits and walked none.

North Dakota State (7-19) begins a five-game road trip at Northern Iowa (14-19) on Friday night. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m. at Riverfront Stadium in Waterloo.
