FARGO, N.D.--Chad Berg, the leading hitter at Muscatine Community College in Iowa last spring and a product of Grafton, N.D., has signed a National Letter of Intent to continue his education and play baseball at North Dakota State.
Berg, a right-handed pitcher and outfielder, hit .358 in 39 games this year for Muscatine (30-18) and was named to the all-conference second team. He hit eight doubles and drove in 16 runs. On the mound, he had a 4.72 ERA with 32 strikeouts in 43 innings.
A 2005 graduate of Grafton High School, Berg was a four-year starter in both baseball and basketball. He is the son of Scott and Nadine Berg, and he will study industrial engineering at NDSU.
North Dakota State, 16-31 last season, is entering the fifth and final year of its NCAA reclassification from Division II to Division I. The Bison are in their first year as members of The Summit League, formerly the Mid-Continent Conference.
