Bison Strand 16 Runners in 4-2 Loss at Concordia

MOORHEAD, Minn.--Kyle Harrison was 2-for-2 with three walks and an RBI to lead North Dakota State in a 4-2 loss at Concordia College in non-conference baseball Tuesday, April 29.
Harrison was the only NDSU player with multiple hits. The Bison left the bases loaded in the first, fifth and sixth innings and stranded 16 base runners altogether. Concordia turned four double plays.
Concordia (14-12) jumped out to an early 3-0 lead. Scott Schumacher and Nick Lewis delivered back-to-back RBI singles with two outs after an infield error prolonged the first inning. The Cobbers scored again in the second on a two-out single by Kyle Johnson, who extended his school-record hitting streak to 20 games.
NDSU (9-23) got on the board in the fifth when Ryan Langlais led off with a walk, moved to third on singles by Sebastian Miles and Harrison, and scored on an infield error.
Concordia got the run back in the bottom of the fifth when Lewis reached on an error, moved to third on a Drew Zimmerman single, and scored on a dropped pickoff attempt at first base.
Langlais scored NDSU's last run on Harrison's two-out single in the eighth. Langlais had his 11-game hitting streak come to end with an 0-for-3 day at the plate and two walks.
Ben Mathiason, the first of six Bison pitchers, dropped to 3-6 with the loss. Mathiason allowed two unearned runs on three hits with one walk in one inning of work. Jake Laber struck out six batters in 2 2/3 innings of relief.
Concordia starter Adam Johnson (4-0) got credit for the win with two scoreless innings. Phil Moenkedick, the sixth arm for the Cobbers, earned his first save of the year with one run on two hits, two walks and two strikeouts.
North Dakota State returns to Summit League action on the road this weekend. The Bison begin a four-game series at Centenary at 6 p.m. Friday.
