
Bison Fall to Oakland in Summit League Opener, 2-1

PONTIAC, Mich. - Oakland scored two late goals to defeat the North Dakota State soccer team in the Summit League opener for both squads on Friday, Oct. 1. With the loss, the Bison fall to 5-3-3 overall and 0-1-0 in the Summit League. Oakland is 5-4-1 overall and 1-0-0 in the Summit.
Sophomore Brooklyn Dyce gave the Bison the lead in the 13th minute, heading in a corner kick from junior Abbey Stratton. Dyce has now scored in three straight games and leads the squad with five goals.
Junior goalie Kalani Bertsch made four first half saves as Oakland searched for an equalizer, but the Bison took a 1-0 advantage into halftime.
Oakland continued to pressure the Bison defense and got a game-tying goal in the 79th minute from Serena San Cartier, who put in a low cross from Julianne Boyle.
Senior Quin Ryan's late chance for NDSU was saved by Oakland goalie Shannon Coley. Oakland scored the winning goal in the 86th minute as Nicole DeLuca scored from the top of the penalty box.
NDSU was outshot by Oakland, 15-6, and the Grizzlies held a 10-3 advantage in shots on goal. Bertsch made a season-high eight saves in the loss.
The Bison continue their road swing Sunday as they take on IPFW at 5 p.m. Central.
